When the .NET universal top-level extension was first launched in 1985, along with the first domain name extensions on the World Wide Web, it was intended to be used by Internet Service Providers or infrastructure entities. Because there were no specific regulations about the usage of the top-level extension, though, .NET domains were bought and used for various purposes and by scores of people. This domain extension represents a great substitution for .COM, especially if the desired domain with the latter domain extension is not available for registration.

You can easily edit the WHOIS info of the domain through your Control Panel tool, or, if you wouldn't like this information to be accessible at all, you can buy a Whois Privacy Protection service, so nobody will be able to obtain your actual contact details.
